DEC 4 UPDATE: Just posted interview about Thai situation with ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan.
DEC 3 UPDATE: I just posted a copy of an email in which William Itoh, former US Ambassador to Thailand, critiques the Thai court forcing PM Somchai’s resignation.
The original posting with video has been overwhelmed with comments (more than 300 at last count), so I have closed comments on there and opened this new string.
Many of the comments have been anonymous and critical of Thaksin, which is fine. Unfortunately many have just been crude rants, which is too bad.
There have also been many comments critical of me, which is fine too - but many of the accusations were untrue.
Among the false allegations, I have been accused both of being paid and of paying Thaksin for the interview. Neither is true.
I have also been criticized for not asking questions on a wide range of issues (human rights questions; why Thaksin won’t return and face rule of law himself; his policy in southern Thailand; how he made his money, etc). I agree with this criticism. I would have liked to ask many other questions, but as you can see from the video, I had very little time to conduct the interview. I do not claim this 4-minute video gives the complete story. It is a single snapshot from one angle that hopefully gives some insight into the events in Thailand.
Interestingly, the interview has proved a textbook case showing the new power available to bloggers. Less than two days since I recorded on my mobile phone, the video posted on YouTube has been viewed more than 30,000 times.
The interview was also, picked by:
English-language Thai media: The Nation newspaper
Thai-language Thai media: Matichon newspaper, Manager newspaper, Kom Chadluek, MThai, CBN Press
International media: AFP, Associated Press, International Herald Tribune, Singapore Press Holdings, Manila Times, Le Nouvel Observateur, The Scotsman, The Daily Telegraph and quite a few others.
Feel free to continue the discussion below and please do your best to refrain obscenities.

Thaksin is the root of all disputes in Thai people.
He is a very capable man. However, he also did not obey the law and the process of jurisdiction.
If he is truly not guilty, please come bact Thailand and proof to all Thai in the court.
“The one who is not obey the law has no right to accuse others.”
Thailand = Land of Smile, I spent years outside Thailand as a student and an engineer in many countries. I’ve never seen any Thai help one another like they help others of
different nationality. Thais never accept any of their people who could do better; they accept foreigners only. For PM. Thaksin, he is the best PM, as a successful businessman he was not accepted by the Thai people too. What’s happening now, the past government (military) setup the judges in all courts with lots of fault evidences against Taksin under this kind of judicial system, he always wrong. Now we have problems, as everybody knows, but the military “which has all the power” don’t help, they just wait to take advantage. In the US, the military help and cooperate with the President but not here. They are somewhat like opportunist (snakes) that everyone in the government has to please, or else…. I think all of us know what it is. I think Thai people should join together at the UN office and ask them to help to fight for the right.
Thomas Crampton, with all respect due, do you actually make a living doing this kind of beige interview?
Can you remember back to College when you wanted to get at the truth and the story behind the bull?
You spoke for Thaksin, when he mentioned not breaking the rules, you chose not to mention that he is a convicted criminal. WTF was that supposed to be because it certainly was not journalism.
IMO you need to take a long hard think about credibility and try to earn some.
Or just continue with this charade and enjoy being a box for others to stand on.
I am so disappointed.
You had him there, right there in front of you and you didn’t pull him on his hypocrisy.
Amazing.

@Lhaull
Yes, I agree with much of your critique. There were not enough questions asked of Thaksin.
I would never claim that my 4-minute video of Thaksin on YouTube gives a full portrait of him or the events in Thailand.
I recorded that video in a short break between his phone calls, to show others his thinking and stance.
Whether you like him or not, his stance clearly has impact on events in Thailand.
This is another new joke VDO that a criminal from Thailand thaksin and interviewer crampton to present to the world.
Dear Mr. Crampton,
I have the chance to watch your interview of Thaksin on Youtube with great interest and would like to fill you up on certain issues about the real situation here in Thailand for your kind perusal.
1. Mr. Thaksin is a convicted felon for embezzlement and unethical behavior unfit for a leader of any country except in the fail states. He is no Juan Peron (eventhough he tried and to pretend to look that way). He is more in the league of Suharto and Marcos who robbed their country blind beguiling himself as a (non-sustainable) populist . The 30 baht comprehensive health care is the most successful & brilliant marketing campaign ploy that won his party in the last 2 elections. Thaksin ordered his nominees to buy up nearly all of the small to medium size private hospitals, before this policy takes effect, because the government have to pay 1,290 baht/person/year to the hospital for the “gold cards” members multiply that by about 40,000 eligible card holders per demographic area so the government paid out 51,600,000 baht/year and guess what??? The hospital that Thaksin bought for 100 million baht is freehold in less than 2 years!!!! There is no question that this policy empowers the people and gives them the courage to visit the hospital with the false security that they are going to pay only “30 baht for every illness” but in reality, it is the campaign managers for Thaksin in each area that have the first priority health care and pay only 30 baht eventhough they are the most wealthy person in that community and can easily afford to pay for their healthcare while the ordinary people WAITS. The solid proof that this is non-sustainable is the fact that only 30% of the Thai people pay taxes compare to the 67% in the UK tax base and still the healthcare in the UK is deemed to be unsuccessful.
2. The rural Thai people have a saying that we should be grateful and payback to the giver for even a spoonful of rice or a glass of water. The most likely thing is that they will vote for any party their representative MP represents no matter how many times they switch parties, because they brought in electricity, roads, reservoir etc. Thaksin or no Thaksin. However, Thaksin is cunning enough to corralled and round up majority of the North and Northeastern MPs (thus all the voting masses) and paid them back handsomely for their collaborations by granting them government projects like road building, reservoirs, schools and even publicly declared that any of the provinces that votes for his party will have the first priority and budgets, 60% of the Thai voters are in this category.
The basic principles for democracy which undeniably is universal are:
1. One man one vote no matter who and where you are.
2. Rule of Law
3. Check and balances.
For the past 76 years since the abdication of King Rama 7, Thailand has never passed rule number 1. Military dictators make sure that they can bend the rule of law so there will be no check and balances against them at a later time. During the Thaksin’s six years rule, he never can do wrong because he got the best lawyers under his wings and change the law in front of his every move for his personal gains and to enrich his cronies. He is a true MONETARY DICTATOR down to the core which to me and many other academics, see no differences between military dictators who used guns and tanks and the monetary dictator who use money and wealth for his personal gain.
There is a very interesting article from Cornell University that wrote about King Rama 7th in 1926 to his advisor during his time as absolute monarch asking whether or not Thailand should have a parliamentary system? 82 years have passed since that date but everything written then is still true today in Thailand. http://instruct1.cit.cornell.edu/Courses/hist244/Batson.html
3. The PAD action to occupy the government house and Suvarnabhumi airport is totally wrong and will cost Thailand dearly in terms of tourism revenue and trade. There is no justification to their actions and we should strongly condemn their leaders. The only equation I can think of is how much will Thailand have to pay in the long run if Thaksin’s nominee, brother in law, sisters etc.
is permitted to run the country to the ground. Interestingly, when Thaksin came into power 7 years ago, his personal assets as reported to the counter corruption commission was 20,000 billion baht while the national household debts was 75,000 baht per household. When he was forced out by the military coup on September 19, 2006, his frozen assets in Thailand is valued at 76,000 billion baht while conservative estimate of his overseas fortune stashed away in various tax havens is 200,000 billion baht while the national household debts now stands at 135,000 baht per household. Quantify into simple math, Thaksin is 10 times richer and the people is two times poorer now than 7 years ago! Most of their debts came from the easy credits created by Thaksin’s policy to jump start the economy by encouraging people to spend and live beyond their means. As a result, more than 50% of the credit card debts will be NPL, just like the Hamburger Crisis in the US because they live beyond their means.
4. Three most crucial path to real democracy in Thailand are:
4.1 Giving its people “real and proper education” not rote learning but to teach them critical thinking, reasonings and the desire to explore the horizons beyond their villages and towns.
4.2 Granting them the freedom with unbiased information and as much media exposures as possible by free tv and radio.
4.3 Choosing the Right man for the right job to lead the country with capable people who really knows what they are doing; rather than the present quota system and horse trading, that gives the faction with the most MPs to be the first to choose the ministry with the biggest budget and/or employs the most people who might be useful to their next election.
In conclusion, the political stalemate that we are facing is not institution against the people or the urban against the rural, but rather a convicted fugitive with loads of ill gotten wealth, exploiting the mass through their community leaders of MPs, to fight for his return to power and his hunger for vengeance to get even with his perceived enemies. This is going to be a very costly lesson for Thailand and a price that we have to pay while looking forward and hoping for a better future for true democracy when Thailand can see the light of day and elect politicians who really cares for their country.
I hope that you will review my comments and give it a thought by simply asking yourself if Thaksin is the premier in your country, will the citizen of your country allow such blatant violation of the rule of law???

its not actually about thakin’s corruption. the fact is that this one person actually became so influential that he rose above the powers of the royal household (not necessarily the king), the military and the elitists.
i personally think both the king and thaksin are in the same situation, the king is fighting within his house, and thaksin is fighting with all of them.
the king supported thaksin publicly right until the coup in 2006, as for the situation today, remember also what the king said back then, “if i were not careful with what i speak, i would have been dead by now”
I am a Thai living in China, and from my opinion, Thaksin is the best PM Thailand has ever had, and with these allegations upon him, at a time when there is such unrest and dictatorship going on, it would be very stupid to go back to Thailand and be put in jail for cases where you are striped of the right to defend yourself. I think PAD is acting much a like a group of terrorists. They are willing to die for their leaders, which is not normal. They use violence in seizing the airport, and they want every Thai citizen to elect the political of their choice. How is that for democracy.
Thaksin was never disloyal to the King as PAD leaders claimed. PAD makes up a lot of lies and stories to the world and the people of Thailand.
“Pot calling the kettle black” Loved how you had to teach Thaksin English and put English words in his mouth. He looked like he has heavily medicated. His eyes tell all.POOR Journalism!!Many people’s comments hate Thaksin. Your video sure didn’t help him. When Thaksin says people must respect law, does that mean PPP and gov’t when Constitution Court dissloves gov’t/bans them from polictics for 5 yrs.? RESPECT designed to show face on Monarch BD, Dec. 5th.
Interesting how it takes hundreds of angry comments before anyone starts to mention the King and Thaksin in the same sentence or how the Military is playing red, yellow and white for it’s own agenda. Sadly Thai people are unable/unwilling to discuss matters regal. The King must talk with Thaksin ASAP to not only calm and cool the country down but to also remind the Army that their power comes from, and is to serve, the people. The only group who gains from this continued obsession with and gridlock over Thaksin’s corruption is the Military. Thaksin may have bought his election victory but the truth will eventually dawn on a free and informed electorate. Better a path of pot-holes to democracy than a highway to Burma.
Thomas Crampton, what was the purpose of the interview? You had your 4 minutes and you fed Thaksin with questions, the answers of which were very much anticipated. You even spoke for him, as other comments have pointed. Did you really do your homework and researched about his track record beforehand? Perhaps it was not your intent, but the outcome was 4 minutes of public relations rather than 4 minutes of journalism.
@JT
FYI: Criticism has much more impact when it is not hidden behind anonymity.
“It is a single snapshot from one angle that hopefully gives some insight into the events in Thailand.”
Unfortunately, the angle lacked originality and the interview gave no insight. With due respect, it was like interviewing an Arsenal supporter about whether he like Chelsea or not.
Dear Thomas,
I agree with JT Thomas. I think it’s a common problem with Thaksin. First of all Thaksin’s people or himself declare to all people that they have to call him Dr.! Already here starts the first problem: Thaksin wants to make clear to all of us, that he is something above us all.
Then comes the “millionair/billionair - money” effect in play.
Most people standing in front of a man who has millions of dollars do not dare to tell this man the truth what they think.
So also critical questions are mostly eliminated in order to be on good grounds with him.
For various reasons (fear, wanting a deal out of him etc., various reasons)
And this is maybe Thaksin’s main problem since various years.
All his people carrying around umbrellas for him, cooking, maids, working for him of even in his own family no-one ever told him actually what they really thought of him and/or his political or private mistakes he made in his life.
Except maybe his wife, which now resultated in this divorce (I can’t 100% know of course, but some people also claim it’s to disperse their wealth easier).
Either they (most) of them have his money in mind and/or maybe in your case (if you are honest Thomas) don’t dare to criticise
him (for various reasons).
Here in Thailand since his mistakes came more and more public, there was only one very open interview with a famous outspoken TV journalist on live Thai Television.
Even though Thaksin as usual dismissed any critics, Thaksin came out very flat after this interview, and since then during approx. 2 years he still was PM, he never gave any live interviews any more. Only from his own party loyal people where allowed to ask prepared questions, various times on TV of course, to give to the public the feeling Thaksin was open to reply questions (it was each time a prepared show).
During that life interview mentioned above, where he was so shocked that some-one could ask him so direct questions (very seldom in Thailand to be so open and direct on live TV with the PM or any high ranking officer) he’s eyes were blinking and Thaksin was so nervous, you really could feel that he knew he made many mistakes in his life but in order to save his face he dismissed any allegations.
That’s his way all the time, I can’t tell what he’s trying to achive with this. Personally I think its stupid behaving like this.
So for some stupid reason, which I can’t tell he never can or will in public can acknowledge and wrong-doing or mistakes in his life (maybe the mistakes are to much and grave, so he has no chance to to blame all to his political rivals = a bit cheap now?)
Only recently being abroad in another language region, he restarted again to give live uprepared, interviews to western journalist only.
Most likely in the believe, that they not really knew or researched well enough what he himself did in the past.
And mainly I believe because of his idea, that all Westerners automatically will criticise any Military Coup and therefore he thinks they will come on common ground with him (the poor fugitive who was kicked out of Thailand by the evil miltary, which is of course non-sense as
those military people and the PM that followed were honest man, and tried to strength the check & balances Thaksin so strongly bent during his reign).
Unfortunately the truth of Mr. Thaksin is actually very easy to find. Go online and read from various sources.
Not all of what he did in Thailand during his reign or dictatorship (he even declared and all people in Thailand knew that democracy was not his goal = his own words) was bad, but I guess most was, and mostly I think due to
- extreme (over) self-esteem
- brutal and very arrogant character
- trying to be a good role model
but due to his lousy character mostly the opposite was the case
(unpatient and nervous)
- short-minded - politics (no real plan) all was a show to bring him up more of the ladder of popularity and gain votes, instead of long-term plan
and of course
- corruption on various fronts
with his cronies and families (honestly I have no idea, if you have to be corrupt on the top of Thailand to survive or not).
I just hope in the future the Thai People will give Khun Abhisit from the Democrat Party a chance.
He seams to me a wonderful and current best solution to this mess our Dr. has created here.
But please Mr. Thaksin no more incapable family members ruling/proxy mising this wonderful country.
This is really so low-IQ and stupid from you. No wonder the people here are so angry with you!
Do you want your company to be run by your vice-presidents wife or husband in law? It’s just not honest and the way to rule a country!
Please!! for your own stake get real and stop making the people her so angry and finaly quit politics.
You could do it different Mr. Thaksin and also save your face, in being more honest and coming down from you high horse!
Admit your mistakes, offer to share your stolen wealth (you must agree most of it you got, because you amended laws for yourself) and ask the Thai people (not the King!) for forgiveness.
But first you have to stop lying and come clear with yourself!
@Peter in Bangkok
Thank you for your detailed comments about Thaksin and Thailand.
Your comments are much more useful and worthwhile than much of the emotional reaction that has been posted about the interview.
My reaction against JT is not in terms of his critique for or against Thaksin.
My reaction against JT is his/her blanket condemnation of me and my interview when he does not even have the courage to identify himself/herself.
I probably should not bother to react, but I am getting fed up with ad hominem attacks based on emotion, not insight.
That said, I have learned a lot through the experience of seeing people react.
I wish my blog had a better way to rank comments so that the best ones could come to the top.
Right now some of the best commentaries are lost amid the angry screeds.
Ok… I wasn’t going to comment anything about this VDO, but it really upset me … Personally I don’t like the P.A.D… I think they went too far…
Let me explain about Mr. Taksin… He keep mention that Thailand is under “DICTATORSHIP”
One simply question came to my head.. “Why kind of stupid dictator let you elect a government?” Why would dictator lose their power organize the election….
To me both side is f— up
P.A.D. themselves keep saying that “We not closing down the airport. it the official won;t come to work…” give me a f—ing break…. if you don’t want to close down the airport, what the point of strike at the airport? you can just go strike somewhere else….
I want people to think about it… don’t look at things from oneside… Both protestor and the government are mess up…
If the givernment and Mr. Somchai the PM care about the country… He will resign by now… If you think most people are on his side… Regardless of how many election there will be he will get his seat back….

Dear Thomas,
Thank you for reply. Just to be sure, I would like to point out my reply above is no critic at all towards you and all/most of my questions are for Khun Thaksin himself.
(only that maybe next time, try to ask some critical questions too, but maybe you were not informed and surprised by this chance to take an interview with him and also were not prepared).
I fully also support above Mr or Ms Suppong Center from the Bangkok University.
Many new interesting details came out there. Especially about this stupid idea, to give 30THB health care (and as I read above just even profit yourself from this). That’s really terrible!
And I also by the way also not agree with the PAD, of there recent actions.
Closing Bangkoks International airport is the most stupid thing they ever did. And it’s a pity their good deeds started much earlier now for many months already, but now is unfort. overshawdod by this poor strategy.
It’s clear that the courts, thanks to the PAD, now even have a harder time, bringing now down their I must assume most correct Election fraud verdict.
I just wonder who is going to bring us out of this mess?
I think it could be Thaksin himself, but he want to have all his? money back first. Greedy until the last dime unfortunately this person (even he would have enough to life in peace now, but now he want’s more money and power again!).
What I saw here is clear and correct. If Thai people do not like the current Government, they need to wait untill the next election. Amout Mr. Taksin, The low will take its own action, what is going on in Thailand is simple Black Mailing to the people, who voted for the democracy. I also think the PAD know it very well that they can’t go to power through a fare election, so they are just trying to go to the power through the dirtiest way (black mailing). If the Thai people still do not realize, they will in deep danger for long.

IF YOU ARE A FOREIGNER - BEFORE UTTERING A WORD, PLEASE BE SURE YOU KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE ROOTS OF THAI POLITCS. WE NEVER CRITICIZE YOUR POLITICS.
I’m really sick and tired of you foreigners who act like you know what is going on in Thailand. Out of all these comments, it seems that the poster Peter in Bangkok is the only Foreigner (if he is one) who understood what is actually happening. All of you are seeing things for face value - yes, he might have generated income for the rural/poor people - the only way he won the election is through bribing the poor which is more than the overall middle and educated class. He’s taken much and he had hurt the country, more harm than good.
True Thai,
I’m a foreigner and I’ve studied Thai politics for years.
Thaksin and Thai Rak Thai party used their corrupt politics to benefit the poor people of Thailand (and enrich themselves in the process).
What a surprise that now the only politicians that the poor people will vote for are Thaksin’s TRT people.
The 2008 elections were fair, and the results were undisputed.
PAD is just a bitter minority that wants to overthrow the democratically-elected government of Thailand so that they can put a military dictatorship in place.
Yes, a military dictatorship, because unfortunately the only way that a non-TRT politician is going to be placed at the head of the Thai government will be if he is put there by the military; democracy and proper elections will never work for, and will never satisfy the PAD minority. PAD will never respect the will of the Thai people, PAD will never respect democracy, and PAD has held Prathet Thai, the land of the free, hostage to their political gamesmanship.
And, True Thai, if and when we foreigners ever have the political problems that Thailand does, we will welcome your criticisms.
Jungle Jil
You are Khmer,aren’t you?
Jungle Jil - it shows that you simply still don’t understand the root of the issue. I don’t expect you to understand as we have a different cultural background - even if you do have a crisis in your country, I would not dare to criticize it as I am not brought up like you. I am not saying that you can’t criticize, but please, if you plan to do so, understand the real cause and the root of the problems.
How do you define democracy when the votes are being bought? On Dec. 2nd, The court will rule out if they were guilty in buying votes. You can’t say that PPP/TRT won the election through democracy, as long as corruption exists. Please for more info read the previous post by Peter in Bangkok and Suupong1. They should give you a good ‘understanding’ of why we do not want Thaksin to even exist.
While some people say he did good to enrich the poor.. I will have to say that those people are shortsighted. What is being said is just the surface and it seems that you are looking it at face value. All I can say here is that one thing the PAD stands is true - to protect the monarchy, this is as much as I can say.
Btw, there are more PAD supporters out there. They are not a minority. I have obligations to support my family, but I am a full supporter of the PAD. I don’t agree with the closure of the airport - it was tactics to pressure the gov. to step down. There are 2 sides to a coin - you’d say why PAD closed the airport, while the PAD say if the PM really cares for the country, he should have stepped down.
To Jungle Jil
Btw, come to think of it, I think I just wasted 5 mins writing the above. If you truly understood Thai politics, you’d know about Oct.14, 1973 and Black May. Taking these 2 events in regards, that should let you understand the current situation. Which from what you’ve written, I find that you didn’t quite grasp the history of Thai politics.
Dear Mr.Crampton, please enlighten me about which part of my criticism was emotional. Which part of my criticism lacked of substance and reason? Regarding my anonymity, I cannot see how it would change the quality of your interview. I have voiced my opinion and given example of why your journalist integrity could be questioned.
To your credit, you seem to have listened to some of the criticism and hopefully this experience would improve your work in the future.
@Peter in Bangkok and Suupong1:
Thank you for your insightful posts. It is a pity that many non-Thais have clearly taken stance against PAD just because of their lack of insight and making conclusions from the shallow reports of western media.

Verdict: Guilty - PPP party is disbanded - Therefore, Thaksin’s proxy is now no more. PM just lost his job. He should have resigned to show some courtesy - leave the office as a hero, or be kicked out as a roach. It was the latter…
Well, I guess many of us knew the outcome anyways.
Dear Thomas,
I don’t think you actually realize the impact this video has mad amongst the Thais and what effect your short interview has.
This video clip was aired on One of the Government owned television stations the day you released it, and only served to add more fuel to an already dangerous fire.
I wont go so far as to call you irresponsible, but I think your judgment in releasing this interview was a little hasty, especially as it coincided with a Mass Pro government rally that was held the same day that this interview was aired and your 5 minute interview has fanned flames that is going to take a long time to quell.
Not only that but you have allowed this dictator to make threats of bloodshed which his supporters are clearly following through at this very moment, by hurling grenades into airport terminals.
Perhaps you are a bit naive when it comes to Thai Politics or you did not research this Criminal’s background well enough, or you are merely trying to boost hits to your site.
One thing you have achieved by posting this video clip, is create more hate between a divided nation that a few years ago was undivided.
I truly hope you have a conscience and that you realize that your simple action has cost lives.
Kindest,
Ian
To Ian:
I can’t agree more and couldn’t have put it better. Thanks!
Thakins party has been now for the 2nd time disqualified (while Thaksins goverment was in control, so don’t bring that juristical coup thing again) on grounds of election cheating.
This just shows how this man is dealing with his life and the country.
I hope he can stop now to finance his proxies parties, trying to control Thailand once more unlawfully.
Will he try it for a third time, once more?
Only his character and IQ can tell.
alright, whom do you think from the current list of thai politicians available to choose from, is actually capable or qualified for leading this country forward during this global economy crisis?
the economy and outlook was best for SMEs like myself when thaksin was prime minister. i dont care if he made billions for himself, i think any politician on any given day is just as corrupt, including sondhi and chamlorng. hell i bet even you would be just as corrupt, thomas crampton and jungle jil, nobody’s clean.
personally as long as the king lives, my alliegance is with his majesty, he is a good person. although after his death, i’d rather have thaksin as a head-of-state rather than the queen or the crown prince, i dont think either has enough charisma or persuasion powers or skill to keep the country in one piece.
and yes i am a thai, but now i think more and more people are daring to speak openly about the royal family. yes, the taboo is broken.

จากบทสัมภาษณ์ ของ พ.ต.ท. ทักษิณ ชินวัตร ซึ่งลงเป็นบทความ Thaksin Shinawatra ‘Catch me if you can’ โดย Anil Bhoyrul ตามเวบไซต์ arabianbusiness วันที่ 1 ธันวาคม 2551 ที่สะท้านแผ่นดินไทย แต่กลับหลุดข่าวที่สะท้านใจว่า
“The UK froze his reputed $4bn of assets, forcing him to sell Manchester City to Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mansour. To add to his troubles, his UK visa was revoked - oh, and his wife divorced him last week.”
กระบวนการซื้อทีมมาประมาณ 7 พันล้านบาท แล้วขายได้ประมาณ เท่าตัว ดูเหมือนกำไรมากร่วมเท่าตัวในเวลาอันสั้น แต่ทักษิณใช้ศัพท์ว่ากำไรเล็กน้อย ด้วยมีการเติมทีมงาน (Talent) และ ผู้จัดการ (Management) เข้าไป (ดังข่าวที่ได้เปิดเผยในเว็บไซต์ของแมนเชสเตอร์ซิตี้ว่า “When I bought Manchester City the club had been languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League and had an uncertain future. We invested in new talent and management and have been delighted by the success that has brought to the club.”)

i dont understand when will all these politicials stop filling people’s head with hatred and keep complaining about who embezzled how much money.
people are worried if they will be amongst one of the 900,000 people predicted to lose their jobs next year because of the airport closure. middle-class business owners are worried if they will go bankrupt, and most of the nation is worried if they will have food on their table by the weekend.
what this country needs is a man who can speak like barack obama and inspire the nation.
how unbelievable! Taksin was the best polition Thailand has had in 20 years. He upset the prior ruling elites. Now there will be trouble in Thailand for many years. The King is as good as dead and there is no credible replacement. this will increase the tenseness. there will be more terrorist and criminal activities as people have lost respect for law (legal coups)and authorities. The PAD has shown how minorities can create havoc and other groups will copy this when they cannot get what they want.
military and police will be strained and attacked more often. thailand will go to the dogs for many years to come.
Even though the PAD were effective in creating extreme hatred and a lot of anti-Thaksin sentiment in many minds in the past few years, I think at this day and age, the battle for people’s hearts-and-minds cannot be won by words and rheotoric alone and its influence cannot be sustained for long.
Given the global economic situation at this date and its grim outlook, even if this issue of royalty/elitist vs Thaksin drags on and on, eventually the majority of the people will get fed up as they go bankrupt, become jobless and realize how much time has been wasted. Not many will be bothered to voice their arguments over this bitter power struggle anymore.
I read the blogs at New Mendala, and I agree, in the past 100 years whom would have thought that one day an orthodox Thai civilian would grow as powerful and influential as the King? But it happened, and they tried to remove Thaksin time and again, but he remains just as influential.
I think its time for a ‘change’. The people are getting bolder, and the Royal taboo is weakening day by day. I believe the the King is a good and wise man, but after his death, I don’t believe that the Queen or the Crown Prince have enough charisma or powers of persuasion to keep the Kingdom in one piece. I think it would be time that Thailand was freed from its influence from the grips of its ‘Old Power’ and change was allowed. Only if it were a level-playing field, I wonder how much of a chance would the PAD, the Democrats or the military have against a smart, democratically elected and bold government?
A black man could become President of the United States, why cannot this country accept change of its own?
No one can not stop him back to thailand but why he won’t back coz he obey the law and who really mr. thaksin want to talk to,seem like he would like to directly to the rayalty to asking and calling him back.you know he flied away out of Thailand and bok bok bok outside…come back all of thai people waiting for you..welcome home soon
Dear Change - your post 7:50am
This is one of the most fake post I ever read in the last 6 years! I have no idea what your goal or ambition is, but certainly You just forgot one major big detail (among many others which are on-hand), in your puzzle:
Compared to the “always” honest & dedicated helping royal family, Dr. Thaksin is corrupt, cheats and lies so often and is the worst role model Thailand ever had. He’s jumping as so many other dictators did before him, on the bandwagon of “helping the poor - strategy” and same time “election cheating”.
Unfortunately
- not in an honest way
- and with corruption on a such alarge organized scale, that it’s difficult to stop him as unfortunately not all people see behind his curtain and his people.
- Don’t forget also since 6 years his bashing the majority of voters with government TV news in a one-sides way, that it’s difficult for the voters upcountry to get other political voices heard (such as the Democrats, they hardly get any TV time whenever Thaksin’s voes hold the government under control). Read also Human Rights rapports on Thakins handling on Media!
——-
However if you feel “good?” change is when the Mafia and/or just money can rule the country, you might have your point.
You certainly don’t have mine, or any other honest people’s approval living here in Thailand.
Read his court cases & bad role model & corruption issues on

or google.com “thaskin” up
etc. etc.
and get behind the details of this person and this wrong political system.
Small recent example:
Or do you call someone a good possible leader, for a country if his lawyers are currently sitting in the jail, for just recently trying to bribe the judges (with millions of THB in a cookie box?) for a court case he lost.
It’s boring always to list Thaksins wrong-doings. Google them up yourself and get the real information yourself.
I also don’t agree with the take-over of the PAD by hijaking the aiport. But don’t forget Mr. Thaksin hijaked Thailand since he took over 6-7 years ago.
Not all was bad, but his definitely not fit and honest enough, to be worthwhile to be any leader of any country.
And “en plus” the worst role model for many Thais, one only could imagine.
We definitely have to find an honest leadership, working for the country mainly, and not mainly for his own pocket (or his cronies).
Please stop supporting corruption and see the heart and honest work from the good people here (such as HRM The King).
Whom I with my hole heart salut
and greet for his Happy Birthday on this 05. December 2008!
Long live the King and his family. They have organisations throughout the country, who really help the poor. In an honest and dedicated way!
please don’t compare Thaksin with the King any more. It just doesn’t fit! Ask any true Thai and he will tell you the same thing.
Read also the post above (or previous page) from a professor at the Bangkok University.
Jungle Jil,
You’re wasting time tried to use logic and reason. They were in rote learning system thru University level ,they can’t do what seem to be your simple 5th grade thinking, so they won’t “think” regardless how hard you’ve tried because they couldn’t.
They could only parrot what was said, and what they could remember.
Read all what was said so far, any good thoughts you see?
And if you tried to discuss an issue, which you do in your country, these people will attack you personally.
Why? they couldn’t go into the issue, it was too hard. It required thinking.
Also, they are only allowed to study Math and Science as much as their brains can take, but not anything remotely politic, so their knowledge of democracy is no higher than your first grader.
For example, they were taught only the mechanic of how to vote, but not the core principle of democracy, “all men are equal”.
In their country not one person is equal to the man stand next to him. They had to find ways to differentiate, age, wealth, education or bloodline. Try to reconcile that with “democracy” as the world knows, then you’ll have what they themselves called “Thai Politic”, which they repeatedly claim you won’t understand. And they can’t explain them to you either, they didn’t understand themselves.
Jil, you can study history of your country in its entirely, both heroic and mistakes.
In Thailand they study only selectively.
Their history between 1910 and 1970, the whole section was ripped out.
So, it read like a continuum, jumping from one great king to the next. The rotten ones were customarily left out.
The announcement after the 1932 Coup.
“When the King came to throne, people had hopes…but…
[only to]suffer…
Instead of helping the people, the King used taxes for his own personal benefit…
If the people are uneducated & stupid as the Monarch claims…
it is because our Monarch is stupid and has prevented the people
from receiving education…
The King and his lot have helped themselves to riches by [farming] on the backs of the people, [acting like leeches] sucking their blood…”
== “A Coup For The Rich”, Giles Ungpakorn’===
You’ll never ever saw this announcement in Thai history, it was treated like it doesn’t exist.
Put all these together, rote learning, can’t think, selective teaching etc., a good recipe to create a bunch of ignorance citizens, who have no idea what they want or what they are fighting for, isn’t it?

Re Peter in Bangkok
Well as long as your argument is about corruption and human rights, I am sorry to say that even though I ‘KNOW’ that Thaksin is corrupt and all those allegations are true to a certain extent, the problem is that I don’t believe that any uncorrupt politician ever exists. If I am to support the Democrats or any PAD leader, I know they are EQUALLY corrupt.
So what do you do? Whom do you vote for? I would like to vote for a Democrat or even settle for a royally appointed PM just to end this power struggle, but I wonder how competent they would be in solving all the other crisis that exist in Thailand at the moment.
Dear Change - 9:33pm
I understand your concern and question.
Trust me, the Democrats are the better choice (much less corrupt!)
Khun Abhisit and Khun Korn and many other members are highly educated and will work with their, best know-how in the positions appointed for the country.
It’s not like Thaksin where he appoints mostly cronies and family members in the top positions (and not suitable for their know-how etc.), which one can best serve his own personal and private goals (currently mainly only to save his money and turn & twist his court cases).
People in the government will need a good role model on the top. Khun Abhisit never commited any crime and always offered himselve as mediator, and is highly intelligent and knows Thailand and Politics best (he studied politics in Oxford or Cambridge, can’t remember).
You just have to go as a Thai with a voting right for the better choice (more honest) not pin your hopes on a big trouble-maker!
Many other western countries also don’t have always an optimized choice.
Look for quieter (noisy soap opera speaking politicians as Thaksins, are to be warned off, same as Chalerm etc.) more intelligent and most important an excellent role model who are prepared to share leadership among others. If someone with cash is paying for leadership, and is not letting other people decide together with him, then it’s not a democracy any more.
It’s a fake democracy where all people have only one thing in common: “shuffle illegal money via government means” and accept money to help the mafia-leader on the top. And a bad role model for the whole country.
That’s not the point of being a leader of a democrat country.
Trust Abhisit, give him please a chance and tell it to your friends and neighbours.
He’s the current only political and democratic good solution for Thailand. He also will help to reform his own people within the democrats, where needed.
We all know that the Democrats before also had some corruption scandals (you are right Change there). But if you are honest, much much less then Thaksin collected within 6-7 years.
You agree there with us?
And actually it was the previous Democrat Khun Chuan Leekpai (through clever patient economic mid to long, term politics) and the Chinese & Asian strong economic growth, which helped Thaksin to have a smooth ride during the economic growth after the 87 crash, when Thaksin just by chance took over and enjoyed the pre-work he received (agreeable he also helped to stabilize the possible growth).
It takes a long time, to build a stable economy and country. Chuan Leekpai did actually at that time, the needed pre-work for Thakin’s success. Unfortunately Chuan Leekpais success was hindered with some corrupt scandals within his party.
That’s why Thaksin took over, and also mainly because he came up with this (in his eyes) brilliant short-minded very extreme populist policies for the poorer people.
However Thaksin’s policy has mostly been very short-minded and with only one goal in mind: Votes no matter with what means. That’s not good, if it doesn’t serve the people of the country in the long-term.
Believe me with Khun Korn (possible and best FM for TH) and Khun Abhisit (possible and best PM for THI) we would have an ideal dream team, for a new start to a more honest and less corrupt Thailand.
It’s no secret that Thaksin also fighted on some fronts himself against corruption. But that doesn’t mean if having success that you can start yourself of being so.
We need intelligent and honest people, with good education on the top. Abhisit will also of course be the best choice, for foreign investment and also therefore for export and import
stability, which most Thais can also benefit, with a good well English speaking leader on the top.
The only thing we can hope now, that Khun Sanan and Khun Banharn, will join forces together with the Democrats and
try to creat a new majority.
I hope they all can tree, for the better of Thailand.
Of course also the courts, should give Khun Thaksin a fair future trial on all cases and also make clear (in advance) which money shall be kept if he’s guilty and which he can have back.
At the moment it will look like, we will go to another confusing election government cycle, just because Thaksin wants his seized money back, but on the other hand is not ready to challenge the courts.
I hope a new leader, can find a solution for this as not all money Thaksin earned was corrupt. Some was but not all.
So also here Thaksin should receive a fair trial, and not need to defend himself with a fake government (next step in progress).
———
Dear Thomas
if you want make a good move, go and send an e-mail to The Democrats and ask Khun Korn or Abhisit, for a short interview with you. It’s not fair also always giving Thaksin the limelight of the media (The Democrats are having already a tough time, to get a view minutes on any government channel).
Let the other side speak, and the flaming here might ease.
—
Posters with who hate Thaksin, I suggest to remain friendly and reasonable.
Thailand can only progress with quiet discussions, and not move anywhere with shouting, fighting and/or aggression.
You have to lower your temper to be able to think clear, and try to find a best solution for both sides. Of course under the rule of law, which both sides have to respect. Also Khun Thaksin and all others as well.
Blocking courts and calling for civil war with Molotov-Cocktails
(as we here now among some Pro-Thaksin suppoerters) is the worst things which can happen.
Both parties have to come down from their high horses, and help the country to move on (not their bank accounts).
Work hard and honest, and you will automatically will be rewarded (maybe the honest way will take longer), but your sleep and your self-esteem and your friendship among your people will be much more enjoyable
Talk and discuss not shout, please.
@Peter in Bangkok
Yes, good idea, but a bit difficult to do from Hong Kong. I did, however, just interview Surin Pitsuwan. Am posting it shortly.

Dear Thomas,
Good idea:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surin_Pitsuwan
He was and is a good politician & diplomat for Thailand.
nice week
Peter
@Peter
Thanks! Surin interview is now posted here.
Thanksin is the only problem for Thailand and its people at the moment. You are the most corrupted politician in our recent history. The Thai has prove of that. You are also a fugitive trying to escape jail sentence. You have cheated the Thai people of their tax money. When I hear your interview, I feel like vomiting, on your face. I wish you would disappear from this earth. We would like to live in peace and harmony in Thailand. We can not do that while you are messing with the Thai politics. Please RIP.

Hi,
I guess the question is, how do you want to be seen? Are you, and your blog, only an open space for anyone to say whatever he wants to say, or are you an independent person trying to bring information on different issues?
What we had with Thaksin video was a moment of propaganda.
If this is in line with your objectives (in Thaksin video or any orther issue presented in your blog)then it is ok.
What you should know (I guess you do) is that people will see you for what you do, not what you would like to do.
Thaksin is the worst crook and thief. He has stolen the money of the Thai people and fled justice as a coward. He has divided and destroyed Thailand. He has created a paramilitary gang in red. He is a great threat to peace and democracy for Thailand.
The PAD stooges and their masters in the Army and the Royal Palace are also criminals, They have destroyed the Thai economy with their terrorist occupation of the airports.
Both Thaksin and his entourage, on one side, and the PAD “politbureau” on the other should be jailed and excluded from politics for life. Only without Thaksin and the PAD will Thailand be peaceful, prosperous and democratic.
Long live Thailand without Shinawatras and Padists !
