NextMedia’s fully interactive web TV enters public beta

Jan 30, 2008

Yesterday I had a chance to test out NextMedia’s interactive Internet television system. (Disclosure: I recently started working with the company to brainstorm on new media ideas.)

Next week the system will come out into public beta after a lengthy development phase. The system permits people to remotely join live television programming using their computer’s webcam.

This being Hong Kong, the most popular applications so far have been horse racing, soccer, stock market discussions and food shows.

I plan to test out this system this Monday February 4 at 6pm Hong Kong time and would welcome people to call from anywhere around the world. If you know how to do a video call via Skype (Mac or PC) you can use the system. Send me an email here or on Facebook if you want to try out the system with me.

The ability to get a wide range of people to join a live program opens up the opportunity for many new show ideas. Any thoughts?

Has anyone seen a system like this anywhere else? I have searched but not found one.
