Thomas Madsen-Mygdal: Don’t work with Media Companies

Start-up guru Thomas Madsen-Mygdal (currently working on photo sharing site 23) explains why he refuses to work with media companies.

In short: Media companies just don’t get it. You are better off trying to help a dump truck company that can have a new way of looking at their business through social media. With a media company you will fight uphill to convince them of the value that social media could have for them, but only get a half-hearted implementation.

  1. I think there is a word for Thomas behavior. Its called “hybris”.

Media companies have a track record of capitalizing on their investments. The same can not be said about social media where capitalization plans mainly consist of diffuse ad strategies and other fluffy concepts.
