New Google dictionary defines China as Taiwan

Dec 14, 2008

In testing out the new dictionary feature, I found that Google’s definition of “China” is “Taiwan”.

Chiang Kai-Shek would pleased!

  • Well, not Google really, but the Princeton Wordnet database. Seems there's a bit of a glitch though. Google doesn't have the same info as the Wordnet page, since that clarifies it (ie. China, as in Taiwan is 'officially' called Republic of China).
  • Someone should check the other places in dispute, like Kashmir.
  • I prefer this definition than the "De facto independent country" or "PRC Province'.

Officialy (according to the KMT status, available on their website), Taiwan is still a province of the ROC
