Michel Adam, founder of Fashion TV, describes why he founded the channel and the business model on which his fortune is being built.
Beginning with a bar in Paris, Adam has built one of the fastest growing TV channels, but he makes no money on the shows. (That said, the production of shows doesn’t cost him much either.)
The channel itself - which features an endless stream of scantily clad women strutting down catwalks - is a loss leader for the brand itself.
The brand, similar to Richard Branson’s Virgin brand, is sold on for other industries, such as nightclubs, events or other subsidiary businesses.
Adam spoke in Hong Kong on his way up to Shanghai. He sees China as an important growth market.
