This just in - unconfirmed, but from reliable industry insider., confirmed by Edward Stanislaus, regional general manager of The Edge. (He confirmed the launch, but declined to elaborate on details, which come from a reliable industry insider.)
Keep those tip-offs coming!
Malaysian business magazine The Edge plans to launch a Hong Kong-based English language business weekly in September 2008.
Printed on Thursdays for distribution on Friday and over the weekend, the magazine will try to fill the void in finance news left by the lack of The Wall Street Journal over the weekend. (Speaking personally, there is not much of a void: The Saturday/Sunday edition of the Financial Times does a pretty good job of occupying my weekend.)
Starting with a 64-page book and 5,000-copy print run, The Edge will use high quality art paper and a tabloid format.
Last June, The Edge launched The Edge Financial Daily a daily newspaper in Malaysia on a slightly smaller than Berliner format.
The Edge is not the first Southeast Asian publication mulling a launch in Hong Kong. Singapore Press Holdings came to Hong Kong a couple years ago, but concluded there was not enough appetite for a Singapore-run business magazine in Hong Kong.
As for The Edge, their self-described background:
An award winning and best selling business and investment weekly newspaper. It provides readers authoritative analytical content on corporate, investment, real estate, lifestyle and technology business sectors. Since its launch in 1994, it has become the weekly staple for corporate executives to keep abreast of business and investment developments in the country. It is distributed nationwide via newsstands and by paid subscription.
